Do This: The Last Last Meal

By Amy Cavanaugh in Food on Mar 3, 2012 5:00PM

What would you pick for your last meal? For 87 years, that's the choice Texas gave to death row prisoners prior to execution. Then last fall, Lawrence Russell Brewer, the man convicted of killing James Byrd, Jr., chose a rather decadent meal, then refused to eat it in protest.

Now you can eat the dishes that Brewer chose at the Last Last Meal, an event put on by the Piranha Club, which is a supper club run by chef and artist Eric May. While the idea is a little morbid, we like seeing art and food intersect and thinking about how the simple act of eating fits into our lives.

The dinner, held on March 10 at Roots and Culture, is only open to 10 people and tickets are $30.

Here's the menu:
Big bowl of fried okra with ketchup
Two chicken fried steaks smothered in gravy and onions
Cheese omelet stuffed with ground beef, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, and jalapeños
Triple meat bacon cheeseburger
Three fajitas
One pound of BBQ
Half a loaf of white bread
Pizza meat lover’s special
One pint vanilla ice cream
One slab of peanut butter fudge with crushed peanuts
Root beer

Our last meal would be a whole table of Old Bay-coated crabs and a pitcher of beer, but to each her own. Find tickets here.
