Radiohead Finally Announces Chicago Date

We'll admit it, we were growing worried that Radiohead would get sucked back into the Lollapalooza line-up this year and that would be our only chance to see the band instead of getting a dedicated local live date. Today the band announced a slew of new tour dates, with a Chicagoland appearance on June 10, but we admit to mixed feelings since the venue is the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park.

While the band can certainly fill the expanse of an outdoor shed like Tinley's, it seems an odd choice for a group who has built their career on the unexpected. Heck, one could take their Grant Park show in 2001 as the harbinger of a successful outdoor concert festival there. Maybe it's simply not feasible but we'd rather see the band in The United Center or in a series of dates in smaller spaces than from the lawn of a venue that has failed to keep up with the times.

But that's our dreamer's eye at work. We're certain that Radiohead is more than capable of rising to the challenge of delivering a compelling concert no matter what space they perform in. Tickets go on sale through the band's website on March 8.
