Before we know it, neighborhoods across the city will be back in outdoor farmers market mode. Farms throughout the area are already gearing up for the warm(er) weather and that means—for folks looking for the freshest possible meats, fruits and vegetables—it's time to choose a Community Sponsored Agriculture (CSA) subscription.
Lucky for you (and us) all things localvore The Local Beet has put together what they believe is "the most comprehensive CSA Guide for Chicagoland." Farms in Illinois, southern Wisconsin, northwest Indiana and southwest Michigan are included.
The Local Beet's guide is sortable and searchable. An example: a keyword search for "Bridgeport" turned up three farms with CSA dropoffs near Chicagoist headquarters. A search for poultry turns up seven listings.
Give it a spin. You may wind up buying a share.
