Chicago cab driver Frederick Bailey is charged with shooting two cab drivers after a fight at Chicago Carriage Cab. Co. in Bronzeville. Bailey, 63, claimed another driver had cut him off while they were positioning to lease cabs for the night on Friday.
The two began arguing, things got physical, and Bailey pulled out his 9 mm pistol. The Tribune writes:
Another cabdriver tried to intervene, but Bailey pulled his pistol and shot the men, hitting the driver he'd been fighting in the back and the other cabbie, a 49-year-old man, in the arm, (Assistant State's Attorney Ericka) Graunke said. When he turned himself in shortly after the shooting, Bailey said he had intended to kill the man who cut in front of him, and he added that he would continue to try to kill him if freed from jail, she said.
Bailey has been charged with aggravated battery with a gun and is being held on bond. Preze Bailey said his brother carried the pistol because, "He had to have something on him out in those streets to protect himself."
