In the Blackhawks two previous matchups against the Kings, they failed to score a goal. Last night, the Hawks managed to find the net against goalie Jonathan Quick still proved to be too much for Chicago. Quick stopped 35 shots and proved stalwart in the shootout period, stopping all six Blackhawks he faced. Ray Emery was nearly as good, stopping 27 shots and proving just as stubborn in net before Mike Richard put a slap shot past him to give Los Angeles two much-needed points. Marcus Kruger and Patrick Kane scored for the Hawks, who recovered from a sloppy first period to force overtime.

NU Denied Big Dance Invitation

For Northwestern's men's basketball team, it's wait 'til next year once again as the NCAA Tournament selection committee once again passed them over for a shot at the Big Dance. The Wildcats, however, will host Akron Thursday in the National Invitation Tournament. Coach Bill Carmody tried his best to disguise his team's disappointment after the brackets were announced by noting this was NU's fifth straight postseason appearance. But the NCAA tournament has become the white whale to his Ahab, at this point. Illinois State also made the NIT field. They'll play against Ole Miss Wednesday in Oxford, Miss.
