Chicago Police are holding a person of interest in connection with the shooting of a police officer on the South side last night.
The shooting happened on the 8400 block of South Kingston at 10:45 p.m. during a footchase after a group of four were stopped for an apparent curfew violation. The officer was shot in the chest just above his bulletproof vest and the bullet traveled to his neck. He was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital and stabilized, then transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for surgery, and is expected to make a good recovery. Police Department spokesman Pat Camden said it's believed the officer lost two-thirds of his blood supply.
The person of interest is a 20-year-old. Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said they believe they know the location of the gun used in the shooting, via witness interviews.
