One For The Road: Picasso's American Debut In Chicago

On this date in 1923, Pablo Picasso's work was shown in the U.S. for the first time at the Arts Club of Chicago. The exhibit "Original Drawings by Pablo Picasso" appeared at the Arts Institute of Chicago from March 20 to April 22. It must've been popular, since in December of 1923 the exhibit "Paintings by Pablo Picasso" was placed on display. Today the Art Institute has some fine Picasso works, including our personal favorite The Old Guitarist. Oh, plus there's that big statue in Daley Plaza. That came here in 1967. Don't confuse that with Flamingo (1974), the red sculpture in Federal Plaza. That was created by Alexander Calder.
Here's a video featuring Picasso's works at the Art Institute of Chicago in less than a minute, for those who want as much art as fast as possible.
