The traveling farm dinner series Outstanding in the Field announced the chefs and farms for their 2012 tour yesterday, after a slow tease to generate interest. And damned if they don't have us rearranging some credit card bills in order to RSVP to a dinner or two.
The tour enters Wisconsin Aug. 11 with a visit to Sassy Cow Creamery in Columbus, roughly 30 miles north of Madison. OITF then rolls to Dietzler Farms for two dinners Aug. 12-13. The Aug. 13 dinner will feature Longman & Eagle's Jared Wentworth. From there it's on to Kinnikinnick Farm in Caledonia, Ill., where Brian Huston of The Publican is the featured chef.
OITF comes to Chicago Aug. 16 for its annual stop at City Farm, which will feature Nightwood's Jason Vincent handling the cooking. Then it's on to Seedling Farm on Aug. 19, which will be invaded by The Trenchermen, Michael and Patrick Sheerin. (This is the one we would probably move mountains to attend.)
Tickets for these dinners range from $200-$220 per person. As we mentioned previously, there's a serious monetary and time commitment to attend these dinners, as you'll have to arrange transportation to and from the farms, in addition to buying the tickets. The weekend dinners at Dietzler and Seedling would be ideal opportunities for day trips, while the City Farm dinner is obviously the easiest one to attend; you can get there by CTA, bike or walking.
Tickets for the events listed go on sale at 1 p.m. on the OITF website.
