Thursday Afternoon Diversion: Copper Pipe Magic

By Kevin Robinson in Arts & Entertainment on Mar 22, 2012 8:00PM

Although copper is a non-ferrous metal, and therefore not attractive to magnets, neodymium produce eddy currents that buffer the fall - this is know as Lenz's Law, a way of understanding how electromagnetic circuits work in relation to Newton's third law.

And, if you happen to have both a neodymium magnet and a length of copper pipe handy at your house, you can convince guests that there is some unusual gravity in your house: always a great party trick.
