LASERS and FAST and SHIT Fire It Up With A Cassette Release

By Tankboy in Arts & Entertainment on Mar 23, 2012 8:40PM

2012_03_landfands.jpg LASERS and FAST and SHIT have built their reputation on frenetic live shows soundtracked by songs that operate like dwarf stars imploding on themselves. Repetitive riffs and thundering rhythms are punctuated by howls and yowls and machine gun bursts of lyrics from singer / onstage light tech Joe Carsello.

On record the band managed to capture their live vibe pretty accurately on their previous albums and they've always shown a talent for slipping a hummable melody into even the most punk barrages. But their latest release, Second : Cat Fight, manages to keep that live fire and expand upon it with a slightly more polished studio sound and more than a few sing-along choruses. Don't get us wrong, this is still all rawk and punk bluster and fury, so it's not like the boys have suddenly gone mainstream, but if you don't find yourself singing along to something like "Airports" after an initial listen then it's only because you're in a coma.

Did we also mention Second Cat: Fight is a cassette release? C'mon, that's punk as fuck. So hum along without guilt, these boys are still brutes.

LASERS and FAST and SHIT play Sunday, March 25, at The Burlington, 3425 W Fullerton, 9 p.m., 21+
