Haymarket Pub & Brewery's "Sausagefest 2012" Saturday was as advertised: four-hour feast of tube steaks, cheese and beer. The beers were provided by Haymarket and other Midwestern breweries, including Three Floyds, Half Acre, Flossmoor Station and Greenbush. The 30 cheeses were provided by the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board and Marion Street Cheese Market in Oak Park that represented a litany of styles, all made in America's Dairyland.
Of the sausages, they ranged from bratwurst, spicy Italian, maple breakfast sausage and chorizo to a turkey sausage stuffed with sage and other spices intended to evoke Thanksgiving dinner—and succeeding, a wild mushroom sausage for the vegetarians, a sausage made from marlin that was pan-seared in butter and given a splash of fresh lemon, and a duck sausage with dried cherries and paired with Gruyere.
If I didn't need Lipitor before this festival, it was mandatory after I left.
