Extra Extra: 80-Year-Old Homeowner Charged With Shooting Burglar

  • An 80-year-old man faces weapons charges after he shot a 19-year-old burglar in the leg. The burglar was coming in through a bathroom window to steal liquor from the adjacent tavern, and owner Homer "Tank" Wright opened fire to stop him. The burglar was arrested, but so was the owner when police discovered Wright had two prior weapons convections in 1968 and 1994, and now faces one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon. The man says he feels he had no choice. [Tribune]
