In an effort to promote “worksite wellness” for Cook County employees, Board President Toni Preckwinkle announced a program providing rewards for employees willing to participate in a program.

The Sun-Times reports the program, developed with Blue Cross Blue Shield will be free to the 22,000 county employees and taxpayers won’t have to pay a dime.

It will offer incentives such as free music downloads and pedometers for employees who participate in health assessments that analyze eating and exercise practices.

Last year, the Mayor’s office announced a similar program which penalized city employees who did not participate by asking them to pay $50 more a month in health insurance premiums.
