Extra Extra: The Trial Of William Balfour Begins

  • Jury selection began today for the trial of William Balfour, who is charged with killing three members of Jennifer Hudson's family. Apparently potential jurors "gasped" when told what the case was. When the judge asked if anyone would be unable to decide the case without “sympathy, bias or prejudice,” about 20 people stood up. The identities of the jurors will remain secret until after the trial. [Tribune]

  • Veteran Rep. Tim Johnson (R-Urbana) announced he won’t seek re-election. [Capitol Fax]

  • Aldermen are urging Cubs and White Sox fans to use public transportation to attend games. Seriously, though, that's the easiest way to get there. [CBS]

  • Chicago is opening new tourism offices in Brazil, Germany and Japan. [NBC]
