Another game, another shootout for the Blackhawks. This time, however, Patrick Kane and Corey Crawford ensured a win for Cold Steel on Ice. Kaner scored on a beautiful move against Detroit goaltender Jimmy Howard and Crawford proved to be up to the challenge as the Blackhawks crossed the 100-point barrier. The Red Wings were aggressive in the third period and managed to tie the game and earn the fifth seed and a date against Nashville in the NHL playoffs. The Blackhawks have to wait until after tonight's action to find out who their playoff opponent will be. Viktor Stalberg and Andrew Shaw scored for Chicago, with Patrick Sharp assisting on both goals. Before the game the team announced they signed backup goaltender Ray Emery to a one-year contract extension.

Washington 7, Cubs 4

Kerry Wood and Carlos Marmol wasted another stellar performance by a Cubs starter, this one by Matt Garza. Garza allowed two runs and five hits in six innings of work, but Wood and Marmol allowed the Nationals to take the lead in the eighth inning, with Wood taking the loss. Reed Johnson drove in two runs with a triple for the Cubs.
