The White Sox got their first win under new manager Robin Ventura with a ninth inning home run by Alex Rios to beat the American League champion Texas Rangers. Paul Konerko drove in three RBIs in his 2,000th career game and drove in two of those runs in the third inning on a double, giving the Sox an early 3-1 lead, which was erased by the Rangers scoring two runs of their own in the third inning. Rios' lead-off home run in the ninth secured the victory for the White Sox. Jake Peavy started for the White Sox and struck out five batters and gave up three runs over six innings of work.
