First Look: Bang Bang Pie Opens In Logan Square

By Caitlin Klein in Food on Apr 11, 2012 4:00PM

We're pie crazy this week. In addition to John's trip to the First Slice Pie Café, we visited Logan Square's Bang Bang Pie to check out the new digs and, you guessed it, stuff our faces. We're so great at that.

Bang Bang opened last weekend. Pies change seasonally (or even weekly), so if you see something you like, you’d better hustle. True to their word, the menu has changed already since we took these pictures. According to the website, right now you can get:

Shaker Lemon:
Thinly sliced meyer lemons, macerated in sugar and turned into a double crust custard pie.

Chocolate Orange:
Fudgey dark chocolate chess finished with Blood Orange Olive Oil & Maldon Sea Salt.

Lavender Coconut Cream:
Coconut lavender custard topped with lavender whipped cream and topped with toasted coconut.

It’s $5 per slice or $26 for the whole thing. You can also get biscuits for $1.75 a pop, or $2.25 if you want to use the house butter and jams. As you’ll see in the pictures, the presentation and configuration of the self-serve butter and jam station is perhaps a kink Bang Bang needs to work out. (Can somebody please buy this place a couple of little signs that mark what is what, so they don’t have to write it on coffee sleeves? Tragic.)

Of the pies pictured here, the banana cream was the best. Here's hoping Bang Bang brings it back into the rotation.
