LTHForum doesn't have the influence it did, say, 2-3 years ago. But their annual Great Neighborhood Restaurant and Resource awards still serve as a barometer of what restaurants and stores to visit for local food buffs.
The venerable website announced their 2012 GNR recipients this morning and we find very little to disagree with among the 19 honorees. The honorees include a mix of newer restaurants, out of the way joints and places we never heard of until now.
Among the marquee names on the list are The Butcher & Larder, Owen & Engine, Big Jones, Inovasi in Lake Bluff and Pleasant House Bakery, which was my favorite restaurant opening of the past year not named Next.
LTHForum's complete list of GNR awardees is available for viewing here. You can also check out this interactive map showing the locations of the complete list of awardees over the years. It's as comprehensive a list of must-visit restaurants and stores as one will find.
