Mother's Boyfriend Charged With Beating Death Of 2-Year-Old

Police have brought charges against a South Side man who is accused of killing his girlfriend's daughter. Two-year-old Armaney Cotton's body was found "covered with bruises and what appeared to be human bite marks."

Armaney's mother had dropped her daughter at her boyfriend Devell M. Johnson's home on Saturday morning, so he could watch her while she was at work. The Tribune writes:

Armaney Cotton was found unresponsive Saturday afternoon at Johnson's home in the Englewood neighborhood, officials said. The girl's mother, Brittany Cotton, said it appeared "somebody tortured my child."

“This is somebody who is supposed to care for her,” she said through heavy sobs Sunday.

Johnson, 23, has been charged with first-degree murder.
