Jennifer Hudson, Death Cab for Cutie, Chaka Khan and country star Dierks Bentley are among the musical acts for this year's Taste of Chicago. These will be the first concerts in the festival's history where admission to the Petrillo Band Shell will be charged, after the City Council approved a measure Wednesday to charge a $25 admission. We can't help but have images of Jennifer Hudson playing to an empty band shell bowl, while the lawn at Grant Park is overcrowded.

Hudson plays 5:30 p.m. July 11, followed by Death Cab on July 12 at 5:30 p.m. (Local up-and-comers Kids These Days will perform on the 12th at 4 p.m.)

Raphael Saddiq will open for Chaka Khan on July 14 (and that bill may be enough to get us to attend Taste), while Bentley's opening act on July 15 will be Lindi Ortega. The city said they'll announce how to buy tickets for band shell seating at a later date, and a headliner for July 13 will also be announced.
