Modeselektor Return To Chicago This Saturday

2012_04_19_modeselektor.jpg For an electronic music duo named Modeselektor, it's fitting that their music has long navigated countless electronic (and sometimes non-electronic) genres. Members Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary borrow from everything from techno to drum 'n bass to dubstep to IDM and more, marking an attuned sense of the world of electronic music as a whole. Over the course of their 16-year career, Bronsert and Szary have built a name as one of the world's premiere live acts, as evidenced by their performance at Coachella just last weekend. In between their encore performance at Coachella this Sunday, Modeselektor have decided to embark upon Chicago for a gig at Metro on Saturday.

Fresh off the release of their third album, Monkeytown, the duo is proving once again their ability to bridge the gap between club bangers and complex, forward-thinking electronic music. Modeselektor's live prowess certainly packed significant punch at last week's Coachella performance, but throw their bombastic aesthetic into a much smaller space like Metro, on top of visuals created by design collective Pfadfinderei, and we have a recipe for what is sure to be one of the best shows of the year.

Opening for Modeselektor will be the local Abstract Science DJs, as well as Canada-based Egyptrixx, whose notable releases on the label Night Slugs have put him at the forefront of the bass music scene.

Modeselektor is Saturday, at Metro, 3730 N. Clark St., 18+, tickets $21+, 8 p.m.
