Drummer and percussionist Ches Smith is one of the busiest musicians around, an in-demand musician who has played with Tom Waits and Xiu Xiu to jazz musicians like Tim Berne and Marc Ribot, and constantly on tour with Mr. Bungle alums, The Secret Chiefs. His new albums Congs for Brums focuses on Smith's vibraphone and electronic work, and he's been recently studying Haitian drumming and performing in Voodoo ceremonies. In concert, Smith is an intense performer.

Smith's tour for Congs for Brums brings him to Hideout this evening, where he'll perform solo and in a quartet setting with saxophonist Travis Laplante, cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm and bassist Josh Abrams. Laplante will also perform a solo set. This is part of Hideout's "Immediate Sound" series and starts at 9:30. Admission is $8 and advance tickets can be purchased online.
