Pencil This In: "Wu-Tang Clan 101" At The Hungry Brain

2012_5_8_PTI.jpg Robert Fitzgerald Diggs, aka The RZA, developed The Wu-Tang Clan's philosophy around topics of spirituality, martial arts, capitalism, comic books, chess, organized crime, cinema, and chemistry, and only discovered after the group found success that "Wu-Tang" means "man who deserves God" in Chinese. The influence of Wu-Tang Clan on hip hop has been immense, with About.com ranking them the greatest hip hop group of all time, saying, "No weapon in hip-hop history can rival the chaotic cohesion of the Wu-Tang Clan. The Clan had so many characters, each with his own eccentricities. They were fearless in their approach. There's a good reason no group has been able to successfully recreate their sound."

Local nonprofit Homeroom, which creates artistic programs that encourage conversation and collaboration, is hosting a program on the history and influence of Wu-Tang Clan at the Hungry Brain starting at 9 p.m. tonight, as part of their "Homeroom 101" series. "Wu-Tang 101" will feature comedian Emerson Dameron, and hip-hop writer Sherron Shabazz in a discussion on all things Wu-Tang. All Homeroom 101 events have a suggested $5 donation.
