Hard to believe that Metro is turning 30 this year, and that we've spent a fair amount of our teenage and adult lives shedding blood, sweat and tears at the venerable venue over the decades, dating back to its days as Cabaret Metro.

We wouldn't expect Joe Shanahan and company to let the milestone pass without some celebration. To that end, Metro announced Monday their first official anniversary event: an August 7 show featuring Garbage. Shirley Manson, the (now middle-aged) boys are back with a new album, Not Your Kind of People, and the band to us has been one of those most identified with 90s rock. This is unsurprising, given that drummer Butch Vig helped usher in the "alternative" era as producer of Nirvana's Nevermind. (Tankboy will have a review of Not Your kind of People in the following days.)

Whether you're nostalgic for songs like "Stupid Girl" and "I'm Only Happy When it Rains," want to see if the band's studio sheen still translates live—especially in a venue as small as Metro—or want to spend two hours ogling at Manson, this is a huge kickoff to what should be an amazing series of anniversary events.

Tickets to Garbage's (18+) August 7 show at Metro go on sale at noon Saturday, May 19. Cost is $38 and can be purchased online at etix.com.
