See Food: Spring At Green City Market

By Anthony Todd in Food on May 17, 2012 4:00PM

For us, it's not really Spring until we go to our first outdoor farmers market. Green City Market has been open for a couple of weeks, but we finally made it down to Lincoln Park yesterday to check things out.

The selection is a tiny bit sparse (come on, it's May!) but there are still gems to be found. Greens are everywhere, including lettuces, chard, kale and a multitude of frizzy salad things. For the more adventurous, there are stinging nettles and edible nasturtium blossoms. If you aren't in the mood for a huge salad, grab some rhubarb and strawberries for pies and crisps. Asparagus is still everywhere. Even if spring veggies aren't your thing, go anyway - buy some bread, a pie from Hoosier Mama and some wonderful Brunkow cheese.

Green City Market is held in Lincoln Park every Wednesday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. This Saturday, Chef Meg Colleran Sahs of Terzo Piano will be hosting a demo at 10:30.
