One For The Road: The Republican Convention Of 1860

On this date in 1860, the Republican Party chose former U.S. Representative Abraham Lincoln of Illinois as their presidential candidate at their convention in Chicago. Lincoln famously created his cabinet by appointing each of his rivals for the nomination.
