First Look: Wet Deck at W Chicago Lake Shore

Pull out that list of rooftop summer drinking places and add one to the list: the Wave restaurant inside the W Chicago Lakeshore Hotel has expanded to include a terrace bar called Wet Deck slated to open in mid-June.

With the summer heat slowly crawling in, this terrace perched on the 7th floor is small but functional with plenty of seating. The Wet Deck at the W Chicago Lakeshore offers views spanning from Navy Pier to the north side shoreline.

On their menu, so far, is a small selection of grilled fish, BBQ shrimp and mushroom/arugula tostada bites and skewers of grilled meat like the chicken tikka and steak bites with romesco sauce. Cocktails that will highlight the Wet Deck menu include the Lady Bird, a drink of gin, St. Germain and sparkling rose, and Summer in a Glass, a drink mixed with Pimm’s Cup, muddled lemons and yuzu shu, a citrusy sake.

Our favorite on the list is the Jalapeno Margarita. Weary from past experiences with bad jalapeno drinks, we were hesitant to taste this blend of tequila, muddled jalapenos, lime juice and orange liquor, but found this drink to have a delightfully balanced mix of sweet, savory, salty and spicy flavors. A summer drink to match the summery setting.

The Wet Deck at W Chicago Lakeshore is currently only open to guests of the hotel, but is set to open to the public in mid-June.

Wet Deck at the W Chicago Lakeshore is located at 644 N. Lake Shore Drive.
