Gallery 27 is a new gallery in Pilsen that will feature art inspired by pop culture. We chatted with William Czaszwicz about his new gallery and his first show, Futura, which opens June 2. Czaszwicz said he was inspired to create the gallery by "the growing community of artists online that post what is basically fan art, but created by skilled, talented artists so it is fine art." He has seen galleries that show this kind of work on the West Coast, but hasn't found anything like that here in the Midwest. "Chicago had a void and I wanted to fill that demand, because I feel like its there," said Czaszwicz.

Opening a week after the release of Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom, Futura is a show comprised of art inspired by the director's films. There will be work by more than 20 artists, designers, and illustrators in a variety of mediums. Expected limited edition screen prints in editions of 50, signed and numbered by the artists. There will also be original art works including a spray paint on wood piece, a painting on newsprint, and pencil drawings. It is a diverse group of artists—many are local, but there are also a few international artists in the mix from Canada, Australia, and London.

One of Gallery 27's goals is showing work that is accessible and affordable so this a great show for first-time buyers. Limited edition screenprint posters will run between $15-$40 and original works will range between $300-$1000. Stay tuned to Gallery 27's blog for preview photos of the work, which will be up this week. Gallery 27's next show will open in July and will explore the line between Americana and pop culture.

Futura opens Saturday, June 2 from 6-10 p.m. and runs through the end of June. Gallery 27 is open Wednesday - Sunday from 1-6 p.m. and is located at 1833 South Halsted in Pilsen.
