Problems in the bullpen continue to mount for the Cubs. Rafael Dolis was credited with the loss after he beaned Pirates first baseman Matt Hague with the bases loaded in the ninth to walk in the winning run. Paul Maholm started for the Cubs and gave up four hits and two runs in five innings of work. Alfonso Soriano hit a solo home run in the fourth to end the Cubs' 20-inning scoreless streak and Starlin Castro drove in David DeJesus on an RBI triple in the fifth to tie the game at two, but mental mistakes continue to plague the Cubs' pitching staff after allowing the winning run.
Paul Konerko went 4-for-4 with two RBIs Saturday night to help the White Sox continue to make a case for division leaders. They are now just 1 1/2 games back from the Indians following a big scoring night. Dayan Viciedo hit his third homer in three games and drove in five to lead the team Saturday in RBIs. The Sox had season highs in hits and runs in their win against the Indians. Alex Rios had three hits and a home run of his own. Jake Peavy (6-1) had a rough time on the mound giving up six hits, seven runs and two deep shots in 6 1/3 innings of work, but the offense provided enough run support to give him his sixth win of the season.
