Morning Box Score: Cubs End Skid; Sale, Dunn Power Sox

White Sox 2, Tampa Bay 1

We didn't expect the White Sox to keep tearing the cover off the ball the way they did the past four games, but all they needed was one timely hit to back Chris Sale and they got it in a no-doubt-about-it two-run homer from Adam Dunn in the sixth inning. Dunn's homer, his 16th of the year, was enough for Sale, who was simply nasty on the mound. Sale struck out 15 Tampa hitters in 7 1/3 innings and allowed only three hits as he won a pitchers duel with Matt Moore. Sale left the game one K away from tying the club record and set a record for strikeouts at Tropicana Field. The Sox have now won six in a row and remain a half-game behind Cleveland in the AL Central.

Cubs 11, San Diego 7

Over at Wrigley Field, most of the announced attendance of 38,452 got to enjoy a slugfest along with a day of drinking in the sun. Travis Wood and Padres starter Jeff Suppan canceled each other out by allowing six runs each. Two-run homers by Alfonso Soriano and Starlin Castro provided the winning margin for the Cubs, while the bullpen did enough to snap a 12-game losing streak. Randy Wells picked up the win for the Cubs. Darwin Barney and Ian Stewart also homered for the Cubs.
