After announcing the lease of the old Carson Pirie Scott Building last winter, Target is finally showing signs of life in the Loop. Fortunately for Chicago, Target's presence in the Loop will also bring 300 jobs to the city, which is a nice little boost during tough economic times.

Preparing for its grand opening this July, Target hosted a job fair this week where thousands of people have already applied for one of 300 positions at the Loop store. For some, a job offer at Target could mean the beginning of a long and established career:

"It's good to kind of get into the community like this and be able offer up some jobs that are probably going to take them further than they probably even know," Kathy Paulus, Target guest services supervisor, said.

Although not all applicants were selected for interviews, we predict that Target will be hiring plenty more employees in the near future: Target purchased the former Cabrini-Green site for $8.8 million earlier this year. Although an opening date for the Cabrini-Green store is yet to be determined, we suspect that the upcoming 150,000 square-foot store will be hosting a job fair of its own soon.
