Morning Box Score: White Sox Winning Streak Snapped, Cubs Drop Two In A Row

The White Sox fought to keep their win streak alive in extra innings against the Mariners using nine pitchers and depleting their bullpen, but sometimes good things must come to a close. Gordon Beckham, who hit two home runs the previous evening, hit another two-run shot in the fifth to give the White Sox their first lead of the game at 6-5, but the Mariners kept battling back. Dayan Viciedo hit a solo home run in the eighth to tie the game at 8-8 and sent it into 12 innings, but the Mariners managed to pull ahead and snap the streak.
If there is one thing to say about the Cubs this season, it's that they keep games within reach. David DeJesus, who's been lighting up the ball lately, hit a solo home run in the fourth to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead, but it wasn't enough. Matt Garza (2-4) was handed the loss after giving up two runs, five hits, and one walk in six innings of work. He struck out six batters, but Garza remains winless in his last five starts. The loss extends the Cubs road losing streak to nine straight--their longest road losing streak since 2006.
