We've become fairly bored and/or annoyed by the constant stream of events that gather a few chefs in a room, serve 10 tiny bites and charge $500. We always seem to leave hungry, drunk and with a tummyache. There are exceptions to our jaded state, however, and the Green City Market Chef's BBQ is one of the best. This is our favorite food event of the entire summer (followed closely by Taste of the Nation, and we say that even though we nearly got heatstroke at the event last year.

This year, the event will hopefully not coincide with the hottest day of the summer. Every chef that supports Green City Market comes to the BBQ to serve dishes made with market products. Since it's Chicago, that's pretty much every chef you can think of. There is beer, wine, cocktails, music and so much food you couldn't possibly get out hungry.

Even better, if you're a GCM regular, you can get a discount. Friends of the Market get all sorts of fancy perks, and one of them is cheaper tickets to this event. If you join up at the "seedling" level with a $50 donation, you'll pay off half of the membership with a $25 discount for the BBQ. Tickets without the discount are $125, with VIP tickets (which include early access and special drinks) going for $250.

If you need any more convincing, check out our recap of last year's event.
