Gavin Floyd had another tough outing against the Astros Friday night. He gave up four runs and two home runs, but only four hits in six innings of work. Alejandro De Aza scored on Adam Dunn's hard hit ground out and Alex Rios was driven in by A.J. Pierzynski in two back-to-back doubles to start the sixth inning and close the lead to two. Alexei Ramirez then drove in Pierzynski to cut the lead to one, but the Astros pulled away in the seventh. In the ninth Brian Bogusevic's three run homer sealed the White Sox fate. The Sox left 10 runners stranded on base in scoring position.
It's the same story of the Cubs getting close enough to taste the win, but not closing the deal. They were up against the Twins 5-3 going into the sixth inning, but Randy Wells gave up two runs in the sixth to tie the game at five. Alfonso Soriano led the scoring effort by homering in the first after a David DeJesus sacrifice fly to drive in Starlin Castro. Castro scored again in the fifth after hitting a two run homer and driving in Reed Johnson. But the Twins answered every run, and tied the game in the seventh at 5-5. Soriano came up big again in the eighth with a two-run dinger to drive in David DeJesus to give the Cubs a 7-6 lead going into the final inning. Shawn Camp, however, gave up an RBI triple to Justin Morneau in the ninth to give the Twins a chance at extra innings. Camp then gave up the final run in the tenth to Josh Willingham, whose single drove in the winning run.
