LAST MINUTE PLANS: Blane Fonda Record Release Show

By Sarah Cobarrubias in Arts & Entertainment on Jun 15, 2012 3:20PM

2012_06_15_blanefonda.jpg Blane Fonda is just plain-old fun times. The local act is five dudes who combine their power-pop powers to create their own brand of highly danceable new wave. We’re talking robust and punchy vocals, fervent rhythms, heavy synth, and fantastical lyrics like, “Last night I had a dream there were bears guarding my cabin / while flaming hyenas tried to tear my soul asunder” (from “Bear Lee Lee Gull”;).

Today is the official release date of the band’s first full-length album, Foolish Croon, which they funded with a Kickstarter project, and they’re celebrating with a record release show tonight at Subterranean. Opening will be local rockers Volcanoes Make Islands and lazy band-namers Blah Blah Blah.

Take a listen to some of Blane Fonda’s new album over at Bandcamp, and you should also definitely watch this video narrated by none other than a great Morgan Freeman impersonator—“The Tall Tale of Blane Fonda” tells the story of how the group came into being and explains the origins of the jaded hipster epidemic:

Blane Fonda plays Tonight, Friday, June 15 at Subterranean, 2011 W North Ave, 8:30 p.m., $10, 17+
