The White Sox started strong and Chris Sale, who has won his last eight starts, looked like he was doing pretty well—until he wasn't. In the loss to the Dodgers Friday, Sale gave up one run and three hits until the sixth inning, when he got in trouble. He walked the lead-off batter and allowed two runs to score, which began the Dodgers' rally. He left baserunners in scoring position for Jesse Crain, who gave up three additional runs to give the Dodgers a 6-5 lead. The White Sox, however, had heavy hitting of their own.
Adam Dunn homered to right in the first, driving in Gordon Beckham for the 2-0 lead. Alex Rios homered in the fifth to increase the lead 5-1 and then again in the eighth to tie the game 6-6. Matt Thornton tried to force extra innings, but his wild pitch to Bobby Abreu in the ninth allowed the winning run to score with two outs on the board. Thornton was charged for the loss, and Crain was given the blown save attempt.
