Manipulate Sound At Concatenating Pedals

2012_06_21_concatenatingpedals.jpg Showgoers are usually scolded for touching the musical equipment, but next Saturday Saki welcomes you to come and tamper with the gear. The Logan Square record store, in partnership with The Whistler’s monthly ambient music showcase Glad Cloud, presents Concatenating Pedals—an experimental and collaborative event that asks visitors to take part in the music-making by manipulating guitar pedals linked to the performers’ instruments.

The line-up of musicians playing the event is an impressive one, including members from Joan of Arc (Tim Kinsella, Todd Mattei) and Dhalgren (Dan Mohr, Sam Wagster) as well as the lineup curator Ben Mjolsness. During the event, these and other musicians will improvise on their respective instruments, which are connected to pedals that are connected to amps on the opposite side of the room. Meanwhile audience members will roam around and turn dials to alter tones and create effects as they please.

The experiment will, if all goes well, generate an entirely unique and shared composition. The whole audio performance is going to be recorded and released as a limited edition cassette, the very first release of Saki’s new in-house record label. And for the frugal: this event is both FREE and BYOB.

Concatenating Pedals is Saturday, June 30 at Saki, 3716 W Fullerton, 8 p.m., free, all ages
