Are you hankering for a taste of the bayou? Or just trying to impress/scare your dinner guests? Whatever the reason, consider a whole smoked alligator from Frontier for your next dinner party. No one will have ever seen anything like this. Heck, Chicago hasn't seen anything like this since Cafe Bohemia closed! As an added bonus, the alligator is stuffed with whole chickens. You've heard of a Turducken? This is an Alliken.

We can't decide if this dish is meant to be a pun on the carnivory of the alligators (as if they had eaten the chickens just before they went into the smoker) or a response to the constant refrain that alligator "tastes like chicken" - either way, you're getting a lot of protein.

The alligators are shipped from Louisiana and smoked for five hours before being stuffed with the chickens. It's estimated that one will feed 8-12 people, but we'd be willing to bet that's an underestimate. The cost starts at $575, and includes salad, cornbread, sausage jambalaya and succotash. Frontier requires five days advance notice to turn out one of these beasts.

If you're not willing to shell out quite that much money, Frontier also offers gator ribs for $14 on their regular menu.

Frontier is located at 1072 North Milwaukee Ave. Call 312-453-9397 for more details.
