Maybe The Cubs Should Move To Helmet Decals

Did you know the Cubs use an adhesive embroidered patch for their batters helmets instead of a standard decal logo? This is actually a cool thing as it makes the red "C" logo stand out.

That is, unless the adhesive has a problem sticking to a helmet's curves, as evidenced by this screen grab from last night's Cubs-Mets game of pitcher Travis Wood looking like he's ready to hit the ball off a tee while a substitute runner readies to make the sprint to first base for him. Len Kasper and Bob Brenly couldn't ignore it.

Kasper: Uh, Travis? Brenly: It’s not quite that windy here tonight, that it would blow the C off the front of his helmet.

Kasper: I don’t think I’ve ever seen a decal in that particular location on a batting helmet. It looks like a U.

Brenly: Like a horseshoe, yeah. The closed side down, so the luck doesn’t run out. That’s where we’re goin’.

Wood managed to rectify the situation by his next plate appearance.
