U.S. District Judge James Zagel scheduled a Dec. 3 trial date for Cook County Commissioner William Beavers. The self-described "man with the big hog nuts" was indicted in February on federal tax charges for allegedly failing to pay federal taxes on his campaign funds and using his county expense account for personal gain.

Beavers called the indictment "horseshit" and has since tried to deflect blame for the indictment on anything and anyone but himself. After the indictment was announced, Beavers said he was only charged because he refused to wear a wire on fellow County Commissioner John Daley. After his arraignment Beavers blamed the "Gestapo-like tactics" of outgoing federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald for his situation.

Beavers pleaded not guilty to the charges in March.
