White Sox 4, NY Yankees 3

Either this White Sox team has no quit in them or there's a collective horseshoe planted firmly in them. Regardless, the Sox entered the Bronx for a four-game series and won a thriller Thursday night. Down 3-1 in the ninth inning, Dayan Viciedo hit a three-run homer to put the Sox ahead. Dramatic? Yes. But let's put this into greater perspective. The last time a player hit a three-run or grand slam home run in the ninth inning, in Yankee Stadium, to beat the Bronx Bombers was by Kansas City's Bob McDonald 40 years ago. It also shows how much the Yankees miss future Hall of Fame closer Mariano Rivera. The Yankees made it interesting in their last raps and it looked as though Derek Jeter had hit a two-run walkoff homer, but Alex Rios managed to corral the ball for the final out and seal the White Sox' third straight win. An Alejandro De Aza solo shot accounted for the other Sox run.

Dylan Axelrod turned in a quality start for the Sox, striking out four in seven innings of work. Hector Santiago picked up the win while Addison Reed earned his 11th save of the season. Reed is showing nerves of steel and for more on the rookie closer go over to ChicagoSide and read Daniel Dorfman's profile of him.
