Last Friday marked the final show for Lawndale/Little Village-area DIY space Treasure Town, who were evicted from their space. One of the first bands to play that show, Chicago punk act Scoundrel, impressed greatly, recalling favorably Titus Andronicus, fellow Chicagoans Mannequin Men, and buzzed-about New Yorkers The Men (who also played Treasure Town back in March, and will play Pitchfork fest next weekend). Listen to their demo here.

Though the band doesn't have much of an online presence, a Bandcamp demo from April reveals a raucous, melodic variant of garage and punk that, while hardly original, is vital and infectious all the same. Live, Scoundrel are everything a band like this should be--fun, irreverent, and filled with tunes that begged to be sung-along to. The group will play Township on July 21. Check out what will surely be a promising group below.
