The Lowbrow Reader Variety Hour Hits Chicago

2012_07_04_LowbrowReader.jpg The Lowbrow Reader is a New York-based comedy journal that just this spring released its first book, The Lowbrow Reader Reader. To celebrate the release, the publication is taking over the Hideout tomorrow for the Chicago debut of its very own variety hour.

The publication’s Manhattan-based variety hours feature a mix of local music and comedy, and the Chicago variety hour will do the same—it’ll present performances by Lowbrow’s favorite Chicago-based performers.

The musical headliner will be folk-rock singer/songwriter Ezra Furman, who recently released his first solo album The Year of No Returning. Also taking to the stage will be pianist and crooner Daniel Knox as well as comedian Charlie Bury, and the night will include short reading by major contributors to Lowbrow's new book, Marsha Aronson Ruttenberg and Jay Jennings.

The Lowbrow Reader Variety Hour is Thursday, July 5 at the Hideout, 1354 W Wabansia, 9 p.m., $10, 21+
