Do This: Rushmore On The Roof

By Rob Christopher in Arts & Entertainment on Jul 10, 2012 5:40PM

Earlier this summer we raved about Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom, to our eyes his best movie since Rushmore. Who knew that we'd be offered a chance to see Rushmore so soon after writing that--and on the roof of a Whole Foods!

But that's exactly what's going down on Tuesday, July 17 as part of Whole Foods' Bike-In Movie Night series, when Rushmore will be screened on the roof of Whole Foods Market Lincoln Park. (And how does one "bike-in" to a rooftop location? Hum, good question ...) $5 not only admits you to the movie but also a pre-reception featuring New Belgium Beer specials. Bikes. Fat Tire. Get it? All proceeds benefit Fresh Moves, a local non-profit mobile produce market.

Of Rushmore itself, we defer to Tristan Johnson at CINE-FILE, who writes, "Wes Anderson didn't reinvent rock n' roll, but in the stylistically sluggish landscape of American cinema circa 1998, he left enough audiences convinced he had. Building on his Bottle Rocket cred, Anderson patents his stilted and symmetric brand of Americana within these frames, with well-wrought whimsy and overtones of the British Invasion that would inform not just his work to come, but countless indie imitators across the burgeoning decade." Believe it or not when the movie came out in 1998 Jason Schwartzman was still a teenager, making his smart assery that much sharper. But it's Bill Murray, in his first Anderson movie, that has many of the best lines.

Pre-reception is 7:30 p.m. and the movie is 8:30 p.m. at Whole Foods Market Lincoln Park, 1550 N. Kingsbury.
