Cubs co-owner Laura Ricketts is partnering with actress Jane Lynch, tennis star Billie Jean King and petroleum businesswoman Sarah Schmidt to launch L-PAC, a super PAC dedicated to supporting causes and candidates that appeal to lesbian voters. Laura Ricketts is the first openly gay MLB team owner.
The group's goal for the 2012 election cycle is a modest $1 million. Its beneficiaries haven't been finalized, although likely recipients could be Wisconsin Rep. Tammy Baldwin, who hopes to become the first openly lesbian member of the U.S. Senate, and campaigns working to defeat state bans on same-sex marriage.
The move is in stark contrast to her father Joe Ricketts' recent political maneuvers. The billionaire, who made his fortune founding TD Ameritrade a super PAC called The Campaign for Primary Accountability that specifically targeted three Illinois congressional candidates.
We're a little relieved by Laura Ricketts' new political moves. It's good to know the Ricketts family has some political balance. See video below of Laura Ricketts at Cubs opening day 2012.
