Chicagoist Mix alum Chrissy Murderbot—the prolific, Chicago-based juke and ghettohouse producer—is always up to something. Whether it's remixing, DJing, or producing his own material, Murderbot seems to always have something on the horizon. His latest bit of creative output is the Friendship EP, a four-track collection of dance floor heavy-hitters dropping July 24 on Halocyan Records.
The Friendship EP is a slight shift from Murderbot's recent material. It's made up of two original tracks ("Friendship" and "Bionic Penguins") and two remixes by Legowelt and Sumsum, respectively. Both "Friendship" and "Bionic Penguins" depart from some of the more footwork-inspired sound palette we're used to hearing from Murderbot, instead opting for a bigger, more dynamic vibe. But the stuttering, frenetic drum patterns and enveloping bass you'd expect from a juke enthusiast are still there. Both the original tracks and the remixes are texturally big and ready for the club, and have already been making their way into sets across the world. Whether or not Murderbot's time touring with Machinedrum made a lasting impression on his approach to producing, it's evident that at least for this release, there is some distinct crossover.
