Who Wants To Trade In A Car For A Shiny New Bike?

New Belgium Brewing brings their annual Tour de Fat to Palmer Square this Saturday, July 20. The highlight of the event—lost in the shuffle of the carnival atmosphere and the beer—is finding that one person who’s willing to trade in his automobile for a year of living car-free.
It has happened and Chicagoist even helped facilitate such a swap once. This year, New Belgium is sweetening the pot. The lucky person who turns in his car keys Saturday will be given a budget of $2,250 to build the ultimate commuter bike in order to ease the transition to getting by on no dollars a gallon.
The problem is New Belgium is still looking for a taker. Typically someone comes around last minute but we can see why you wouldn’t want to trade in your car for a custom-built bike. To many cycling advocates we’re preaching to the choir. But, if you are interested, feel free to fill out an application at New Belgium’s Tour de Fat Facebook page or send an email pleading why New Belgium should consider taking your car.
