It's going to be a great weekend for City Provisions and they want you to be a part of it. On Friday they will be releasing the latest in their series of unique and acclaimed collaboration brews. Then on Saturday they'll take to the road for a farm dinner.
The new brew, a collaboration with Dark Horse Brewing, is a pale ale that sounds perfect for summer. It's flavored with apricots and chamomile, and when the weather turns hot again, it should help keep you nice and chilled. Tonight from 6-9 p.m., you can try the first taste of the brew, meet the brewers and enjoy some free finger foods.
Tomorrow is the main event: a 13-hour farm dinner trip that is appropriately billed as a "mini vacation." City Provisions farm dinners were voted "Best Farm Dinner in Illinois" last year by CBS Chicago, and it looks like the 2012 series is going to be even better. The trip starts when guests catch a bus at City Provisions at 11 a.m. On the bus, Greenbush Brewing will be serving samples of some of their beers and Chef Cleetus Friedman will be handing out a few small bites. Once guests arrive at La Pryor Farm, they'll be treated to a cocktail hour with the farmers, courtesy of Koval Distillery.
After cocktail hour, the group will take a tour of the farm before sitting down to a huge, family-style dinner. Having experienced one of Friedman's dinners before, we can only imagine everyone will leave stuffed. After dinner, there will be a bonfire and more drinks before every boards the bus for home.
The price is a little steep at $250. But that's for a 13-hour experience: the bus; local beer; local spirits; a farm tour; and a huge dinner. Plus, you'll certainly never forget it. For tickets, contact City Provisions at 773-293-2489. If you can't go to this farm dinner, there are two more—one in August and one in September.
City Provisions is located at 1818 W. Wilson.
