This Week In Street Fests: Square Roots, Taste Of River North, Sheffield Garden Walk

We were super bummed earlier this year when the Old Town School of Folk Music announced it'd be canceling its annual Folk & Roots Festival. Instead the school partnered with the Lincoln Square Chamber of Commerce to create Square Roots. Despite the name change, the great musical lineup isn't much different. Like the old festival, there are great local and international acts, including Ezra Furman and the Waco Brothers. Beer drinkers will love it, too, because the liquid lineup includes Half Acre, Two Brothers, Metropolitan, Finch's, 5 Rabbit, Greenbush, Vander Mill Cider, Hinterland, Founders and New Holland. And food? Well there will be Byron's Hot Dogs and LM Restaurant and Cevapcici and everything in between.
Square Roots will be on Lincoln Avenue between Montrose and Wilson on Friday 5 p.m to 10 p.m., Saturday noon to 10 p.m., Sunday noon to 8 p.m.
Milwaukee Avenue Arts Fest
We already told you about this one earlier today. This festival will dominate Logan Square this weekend. Check it out.
Milwaukee Avenue Arts Fest is in Logan Square Friday 4 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Who's hungry? Restaurants featured at this festival include The Motel Bar, Theory, Hubbard Inn, Zocalo, Ai Japanese and more. The musical lineup includes cover bands like Sixteen Candles, Hot Sauce Committee and Hairbanger's Ball, as well as folk rock group Poi Dog Pondering.
Taste of River North is at Ward Park at Kingsbury and Erie on Friday 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday
Sheffield Garden Walk and Festival
The Sheffield Garden Walk features, you guessed it, gardens. Grab one of the tours or ask a master gardener for some advice on your own. Learn a little more about Lincoln Park by catching one of the architectural tours, too. The musical lineup features headliners Cowboy Mouth, Gomez, Michael McDermott and The Ike Reilly Assassination.
Sheffield Garden Walk is at Sheffield and Webster on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m.
This laid-back Lakeview block party features beer, music and plenty of stuff for the kids.
Summer on Southport is at 3700 N. Southport on Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
