Here's One From The Golden Age Of Local Afternoon Movie Shows

2012_7_25_monstrous_movie.jpg Rick Klein's Museum of Classic Chicago Television continues to justify its place on our RSS feed. Today's trip down memory lane from Klein is the opening from WFLD-TV's Monstrous Movie screening of I Was a Teenage Frankenstein from July 25, 1981.

The video transfer quality here isn't the best. Rich "Svengoolie" Koz told Klein the initial voiceover in the opening was from Ron Beattie, who left Channel 32 in 1980. Of particular note here: the "32" logo in the opening is a holdover from Kaiser Broadcasting's ownership of the station, from 1972-77. The laughing in the background is a stock novelty item called "Bag O'Laughs" that, when touched, provided the maniacal laughing. This would account for the distant, tinny quality of the laughing.
